Cookies Policy
Last updated 21 October 2026
This page explains what cookies are, which ones this website, www.oldhammandir.faith, uses, and how you can control them. It goes with our privacy policy, which explains how we look after personal information more generally.
What a cookie is
A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store on your device. The site can read it back on later visits. Cookies are used to keep you signed in, to remember a choice you have made, and, on many sites, to track what you do. This site uses cookies only for the first two purposes.
Some services on the site are provided by other companies, and those companies can set their own cookies when their content loads. They are listed below.
Cookies we set ourselves
If you simply read the site, we set no cookies at all. The site is served from a cache for ordinary visitors and stores nothing on your device. Cookies are set only in the two situations below.
Volunteer sign-in
Volunteers who sign in to manage content receive the standard WordPress sign-in cookies. Visitors who do not sign in never receive them.
| Cookie | What it does | Lasts |
|---|---|---|
wordpress_test_cookie | Checks that your browser accepts cookies when you sign in. | Until you close the browser |
wordpress_sec_… | Holds the encrypted details of your sign-in so that you stay signed in. | 2 days, or 14 days with "Remember me" |
wordpress_logged_in_… | Tells the site who is signed in, so it can show the volunteer dashboard. | 2 days, or 14 days with "Remember me" |
wp-settings-…, wp-settings-time-… | Remember your personal display settings in the editing screens. | 1 year |
Translation
The language button on each page offers a machine translation through GTranslate, which uses Google Translate. Choosing a language sets one cookie so that the pages you open next are shown in the same language. Nothing is set until you choose a language, and it is removed when you switch back to English.
| Cookie | What it does | Lasts |
|---|---|---|
googtrans | Remembers the language you chose. | Until you close the browser |
Cookies set by other companies
These are set only when you use the feature concerned. We do not control them; each company's own cookie and privacy policies apply.
YouTube (Google)
The daily darshan page can show a live stream from the Mandir's YouTube channel in a YouTube player. When the player loads, and especially once you press play, YouTube may set cookies such as CONSENT, VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE and YSC, which it uses to remember your preferences, to measure views and, if you are signed in to a Google account, to link what you watch to that account. Google's cookie policy: policies.google.com/technologies/cookies.
Google Maps
Event pages have a "Show map" button. The map is not loaded until you press it. When you do, Google Maps loads from Google's servers and may set cookies such as NID, which Google uses to remember your preferences and to measure use of the map.
Google Translate (through GTranslate)
Besides the googtrans cookie above, translating a page sends its text to Google Translate, which may set its own cookies on Google's domains while it does so.
PayPal
Donations are made on PayPal's own website, which you reach through the Donate button. PayPal sets cookies on its own site, not on ours.
Facebook and Instagram
The social posts shown on our site are copies stored on our own server, and viewing them sets no Meta cookies. If you follow a "View on Facebook" or "View on Instagram" link you leave our site, and Meta's cookies and policies apply there.
What we do not use
- No analytics cookies: we do not use Google Analytics or any similar service.
- No advertising cookies.
- No social-media tracking pixels or "like" buttons that report back to Facebook or others.
- No cookie banner, because the only cookies set on our own site are the ones needed for a feature you have chosen to use.
How to control cookies
You can see, delete and block cookies in your browser's settings. Blocking all cookies will stop the volunteer sign-in and the language button from working, but the rest of the site will work as normal. The browser makers explain how:
- Chrome: support.google.com/chrome/answer/95647
- Safari on iPhone and iPad: support.apple.com/en-gb/105082
- Safari on Mac: support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/safari/sfri11471/mac
- Firefox: support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/clear-cookies-and-site-data-firefox
- Microsoft Edge: support.microsoft.com (Edge cookies)
To stop YouTube and Google Maps setting cookies, do not press play on the live stream or "Show map" on an event page; neither loads until you ask for it.
