Dev Prabhodhini Ekadashi is referred to as the King of all Ekadashis. On this day of Kartik Sud 11, many auspicious events took place in the Swaminarayan Sampraday.

This Ekadashi marks the end of Chaturmaas — the four sacred months of the monsoon season during which Lord Vishnu is in divine sleep (Yoga Nidra). On Dev Prabhodhini Ekadashi, the Lord awakens. Hence this day is also known as Prabodhini Ekadashi — the Ekadashi of awakening.

With Lord Vishnu’s awakening, the auspicious period for Hindu marriages and other sacred ceremonies resumes. Tulsi Vivah — the marriage of the Tulsi plant with Lord Vishnu — is performed around this time, beginning on this very Ekadashi or the following day.

In the Swaminarayan Sampraday, this day holds special significance as it marks important milestones in the life and mission of Lord Swaminarayan. Devotees observe a strict fast, perform special puja, sing devotional kirtans through the night, and light lamps in great numbers to celebrate the awakening of the Lord.
