Yogini Ekadashi falls on Jeth Vad 11. The vratt of Yogini Ekadashi is described in detail in the Brahmavait Puran. Shree Krishna expressed to King Yudhistir, “O King! Yogini Ekadashi is the destroyer of all sins and the giver of salvation. The vratt relieves one from pain and gives harmony and peace.”
The story of Yogini Ekadashi involves a devoted attendant of Lord Kubera (the god of wealth) named Hemamali, who was responsible for collecting flowers for Lord Shiva’s daily puja. One day, distracted by his attachment to his wife, he failed to bring the flowers in time for the puja.
Lord Kubera was furious at this neglect of the Lord’s worship and cursed Hemamali to suffer from severe leprosy and be separated from his wife. Wandering in misery, Hemamali eventually met the great sage Markandeya, who told him about the power of Yogini Ekadashi. By observing this Ekadashi with complete devotion and fasting, Hemamali was cured of his disease, reunited with his wife, and restored to his position in heaven.
This story illustrates that the observance of Yogini Ekadashi can cure physical and spiritual ailments alike and restore harmony in one’s life. Devotees observe this fast to seek liberation from suffering, peace of mind, and divine blessings.
