On this day, Ganapati appeared. He is venerated with Sindoor, Bilvapatra and Sweet balls (Churma na Ladoo). Such veneration destroys all our problems (Vigna). One should not look at the moon on this day as this is undoubtedly considered inauspicious.
Ganesh Chaturthi, also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi, is a Hindu festival celebrating the birth of Lord Ganesha. It is observed on the fourth day (Chaturthi) of the bright fortnight (Shukla Paksha) in the Hindu month of Bhadrapada.
Lord Ganesha is the deity of wisdom, prosperity, and good fortune. He is the remover of obstacles (Vighnaharta) and is invoked at the beginning of all auspicious activities. Devotees offer modak (sweet dumplings), durva grass, and red flowers to the Lord.
The festival involves the installation of Ganesha idols in homes and public pandals, followed by devotional worship, kirtans, and the recitation of the Ganapati Atharvashirsha. On the final day, the idol is immersed in water symbolising the return of Ganesha to his divine abode.
