It falls on Maha Sud Panchmi. The season of Vasant is considered the best from all aspects and Lord Shree Krishna proclaims the season of Vasant to be Himself. On this day worship is offered to Shikshapatri.

Vasant Panchami marks the onset of spring (Vasant Ritu). The word Vasant means spring, and Panchami means the fifth day. It is celebrated on the fifth day of the bright fortnight (Shukla Paksha) in the month of Magh (January–February).

The festival is dedicated to Goddess Saraswati, the deity of knowledge, arts, and wisdom. Devotees wear yellow clothing on this day, as yellow represents the vibrancy of spring and the mustard flowers that bloom at this time. Special puja is offered to Saraswati and to educational tools, musical instruments, and books.

In the Swaminarayan Sampraday, Vasant Panchami is particularly significant as it is the day on which Lord Swaminarayan instructed that worship be offered to the Shikshapatri – His code of conduct and the foundational scripture of the Sampraday. Devotees perform special puja of the Shikshapatri and renew their commitment to following its principles.
